Global GreenTag International Opens Public Consultation on Thermal and Acoustic Insulation Product Category Rules

Industry stakeholders invited to help shape the requirements for transparent, consistent and independently verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). Consultation closes 6 November 2026.

Global GreenTag International has announced a public consultation on two new draft sub-Product Category Rules (sub-PCRs) covering Thermal Insulation Products and Acoustic Insulation Products, as part of its internationally recognised Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) Program.

Open until 6 November 2026, the consultation invites manufacturers, suppliers, industry associations, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) practitioners, architects, designers, specifiers, sustainability professionals and other interested stakeholders to review the proposed requirements and contribute feedback before the documents are finalised.

Product Category Rules (PCRs) establish the technical requirements and methodologies used to develop Type III Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). They provide a framework for assessing and reporting environmental impacts based on Life Cycle Assessment, supporting consistency, transparency and comparability of product information where equivalent assessment conditions apply.

The two draft sub-PCRs address distinct categories of building and construction products:

• Thermal Insulation Products: Covering thermal insulation materials and applications, including products used in ceilings, walls, floors and underfloor systems.
• Acoustic Insulation Products: Covering acoustic insulation and sound-control products used in applications such as wall and ceiling systems, partitions, flooring, acoustic panels and other building elements designed to manage sound.

Developed within the Global GreenTag International EPD Program, the proposed sub-PCRs establish product-specific requirements that complement relevant international standards, including ISO 14025 and EN 15804+A2.

Industry Input Is Important

As demand grows for substantiated, independently verified environmental product information, well-defined Product Category Rules play an important role in supporting reliable environmental reporting across the building and construction supply chain.

Public consultation provides an opportunity for industry participants to contribute practical knowledge and technical expertise, helping ensure that the final requirements are appropriate, transparent and relevant to the products and markets they are intended to serve.

Global GreenTag particularly welcomes feedback on the scope, technical requirements and practical application of the proposed sub-PCRs.
