IMPORTANT UPDATE to Global GreenTag International EPD Program

Global GreenTag International Program Director Nana Bortsie-Aryee has announced a new version of General Program Instructions (GPI) for the Global GreenTag International EPD Program.

Release of General Program Instructions v2.3 for the GreenTag EPD Program follows Global GreenTag's ongoing commitment to pursue continual improvement of its internal product assessment processes.

The main objective of the GPI document and report (available for viewing here) is to provide a framework for developing ISO 14025, EN 15804, ISO 21930 compliant EPDs.

Global GreenTag operates an ISO compliant Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) Program. The reporting of its LCA (Life Cycle Analysis) studies is issued as an ISO 14025 compliant EPD. Summary LCA reports - where requested or relevant to local scheme requirements - can also be reported in accordance with ISO 21930 or EN 15804.

In these formats, GreenTag EPDs are LEEDv4®* compliant (140+ countries) and BREEAM®** compliant (40+ countries) and they are also formally recognised by other building tools - including Green Star® (Australia and New Zealand), by the Vietnam Green Building Council's LOTUS® tool, the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia's IS Rating Tool and EarthCheck®.

This latest version of the GPI has been developed specifically for the administration of GreenTag's EPD program, expanding the areas:

• PCR (Product Category Rules)
• EPD development
• EPD verification processes – specifically to support development and dissemination of environmental product-related information that complies with requirements of ISO 14025:2006
• Environmental labels and declarations – Type III Environmental declarations – Principles and procedures.

The full list of international standards that are addressed in General Program Instructions v.2.3 are:

• ISO 14025:2006 – covering environmental labels and declarations – Type III Environmental declarations – Principles and procedures (equivalent to EN ISO 14025: 2010)
• ISO 14067:2013 – covering carbon footprint of products and requirements and guidelines for quantification and communications.
• EN 15804:2012+A1:2013 – covering sustainability of construction works – Environmental Product Declarations, and core rules for the product category of construction products.
• EN 15804:2012+A2:2019 – covering sustainability of construction works – Environmental Product Declarations, and core rules for the product category of construction products.
• ISO 21930:2007 – covering sustainability in building construction – Environmental declaration of building products.

The Global GreenTag International EPD Program is formally recognised by the ECO Platform as an established ECO EPD Programme and Global GreenTag International – as an approved ECO EPD Programme Operator.
