Global GreenTag Celebrates Leadership in Sustainability Award from Australian Institute of Architects

David Baggs, CEO, Technical Director and Cofounder of Global GreenTag International, who is also a Life Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) was honoured this month by an AIA jury that awarded David with the prestigious Leadership in Sustainability Prize – presented to David at the Sydney Opera House.

In the May issue of Architecture Australia, the AIA said:

"David's contributions go beyond traditional architectural practice, influencing education and industry development on a global scale. He has helped architects make more informed and sustainable decisions by simplifying complex sustainability data.

His work on global innovations like the Product Health Declaration, the Modern Slavery Declaration and the Nature Positive Plus Declaration has improved transparency and set new standards for product ethics."

His educational initiatives, including university lectures and a 22-module Continuing Professional Development CPD series, have equipped thousands of professionals with valuable knowledge. Through his ongoing work, David continues to support architects and the broader industry in creating a more sustainable and ethical built environment."

A Commitment to Design for a Better Future

Global GreenTag International proudly supports and promotes leadership in sustainability across many industries, and particularly in the manufacturing sector that is producing innovative building and interiors products. The sector forms GreenTag's largest percentage of clients, whose products undergo GreenTag's robust assessment programs to receive sustainable product certifications.

David was thrilled to be recognised by his peers in Architecture with the Leadership in Sustainability Prize.

"It was a great honour and I share it with our team here at Global GreenTag."

"With increasing global urgency for environmentally responsible building practices, we also applaud the work of architects and designers who are innovating and demonstrating with exceptional and groundbreaking designs to accelerate sustainability in the field with an increasing dedication to specifying with certified, sustainable product choices that prioritise materials that consider human health, ecological impact and social responsibility.

The purpose of Global GreenTag International is to support trailblazing product manufacturers who are delivering safe, sustainable, and ethically responsible building materials. It is especially rewarding to witness the Australian architectural community acknowledge this movement within the product sector. David adds:

"The Leadership in Sustainability Prize echoes the same values at the core of the Global GreenTagCert™ certification system. It affirms the growing recognition that responsible product selection and specification matter deeply – and that sustainability goes beyond energy ratings and water use to include ethical supply chains, health outcomes, and circular economy principles."

The AIA adds:

"David has collaborated with the industry to integrate sustainable practices into widely used tools, supporting architects in prioritising health, wellbeing and environmental responsibility in their work. His advocacy through participation in committees and working groups has been instrumental in advancing policies that promote systemic change toward sustainability."

The Jury who chose David for the 2025 AIA prize were:

Jane Cassidy FRAIA (Chair) | National President | GHD Design

Andrew Noonan RAIA | Andrew Noonan Architect

Stefan Preuss RAIA | Office of the Victorian Government Architect
