It contains insecticides and fungicides, with kerosol as the medium to facilitate penetration into the timber cells.
The preservative is applied in a pressure treatment vessel under controlled conditions and is primarily used to treat value-added sawn timber products, including laminated beams, timber cladding, and ceilings. Vacsol® Azure is suitable for both residential and commercial application.

European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and other regulatory bodies consider Propiconazole a high‑hazard chemical: it is listed on the European Commission Endocrine Disruptor List for suspected endocrine‑disrupting (ED) activity.
It is also classified as "reproductive toxicant, Category 1B," meaning it may impair human reproductive health.
Under Regulation (EU) No 528/2012 (the Biocidal Products Regulation — BPR), and following a comprehensive re‑evaluation process, the European Commission has renewed — as of 21 November 2023 — the approval of Propiconazole for limited uses in biocidal products of product‑type 8 (wood preservatives).
The renewal is subject to strict conditions: use must be restricted to defined "use classes" of wood (e.g., structural wood in use classes 3 and 4, certain joinery in use classes 2 and 3, and industrial "anti‑sapstain" treatments), and mitigation measures must be applied to minimise exposure of humans, animals and the environment (e.g., containment during industrial treatment, protective equipment for workers, limits on treated products such as a ban on use in furniture and children's play structures from 1 July 2024).
In toxicological studies, Propiconazole has shown endocrine‑disrupting effects. These health and environmental concerns, along with its classification as a candidate for substitution under the BPR — because safer alternatives are preferred where possible — highlight why its continuing use is so tightly regulated.
The Product Data Sheet recommends the use of PPE and other safety measures.
