Global GreenTag certified product 'Enviro Hide by Emtech' wins the Gold award for Product Design in Australia's International Good Design Awards.
The Global GreenTag PlatinumHEALTH™ HealthRATE™ certified, circular product 'Enviro Hide by EmTech' made from recycled leather, has won the Gold award for Product Design in Australia's International Good Design Awards for Design Excellence, 2022.
The award-winning product, Enviro Hide by Emtech from Laytoncorp is a sustainable, circular economy product that could be transformative for furnishing, automotive, aviation and fashion manufacturing. Through a unique process, leather waste is re-constituted to form new lengths of Enviro Hide repeatedly, thus minimising the impact of creating lengths of leather from raw animal hide.
The product is 100% recyclable, allowing for sustainable alternatives to chemical contamination and high water usage created by traditional leather manufacturing. Enviro Hide instead creates circular economy opportunities in the manufacturing of consumer products, using disruptive and unique chemical-free technology that utilises leather off-cuts and waste to produce reconstituted leather.

To set itself apart from competitors in the market, Laytoncorp submitted Enviro Hide to undergo a Global GreenTag Product Health Declaration™ (GreenTag PHD™) that investigates a product's impact on the health of humans and the environment. Enviro Hide's Global GreenTag PlatinumHEALTH™ HealthRATE™ certification outcome from this process was an excellent result to clearly communicate for industry and consumers alike the measurement of Enviro Hide's levels of healthiness-in-use.

Enviro Hide's recognition will hopefully raise further awareness of the issue that toxicity and waste from the traditional leather industry still poses a significant, global environmental problem. It is estimated that only 20% of one metric ton of animal hide is converted into usable leather product, leaving significant solid and liquid waste behind.
In comparison, Enviro Hide breaks ground in the leather industry. It reduces off-cut waste as well as providing the market with a leather product that is durable, lightweight, soft to the touch, low maintenance and long-lasting. It is 70% of the weight of traditional leather and 20% stronger than split leather and can be made in any length, colour, or embossed texture.
Enviro Hide's perfect combination of design and technology also caught the attention of Dr. Brandon Gien, Chair of the Australian Good Design Awards who said:
"The Good Design Award is a valuable independent endorsement of professional design quality. It tells the world this project not only represents design excellence, but it also surpasses the criteria for design innovation and design impact."
The 2022 Good Design Awards gathered outstanding design projects from Australia and around the world that were assessed by a group of Australian and international Jurors, including designers, engineers, architects and thought leaders. Each entry was evaluated, following a strict set of design evaluation criteria, which includes Good Design, Design Innovation and Design Impact.
