Global GreenTag Launching in the USA

Global GreenTag International is currently launching its USA operations with the formal in country launch at the GREENBUILD International Conference and Expo in Chicago (November 14-16) with a new globalgreentag.us website, Global GreenTag’s array of advanced product certification services and machine automated global data hub presences.

The company is also currently deeply in talks regarding USA sales and marketing representation and is also reviewing expressions of interest from professionals in the North American market with experience in manufacturer focussed technical consulting and facilitation.

It is a perfect time for GreenTag to be opening in the US,” says David Baggs, Global GreenTag’s CEO and Program Director.

“We will be positioned at the GREENBUILD expo as part of the Mindful Materials Pavilion and will be taking an active role in a public workshop, teaming up with GIGA’s innovative product data hub – ORIGIN.build to launch our full API enabled directory of certified green building materials and products on the platform for use by US and global built environment professionals and to work with ecomedes to officially launch the entrance of GreenTag certified products available in the US on ecomedes.com – the largest database of curated building product information needed for US Federal and State green building compliance.

Global GreenTag is already recognized in the US by the International WELL™ Building Standard and is compliant with the US Green Building Council’s LEED® v4 building rating program. The USGBC and IWBI agreed ‘WELL and LEED Crosswalk’ document provides the guidance professionals need to understand the inter-relationships between these important rating tools and in effect, Global GreenTag as well.

“GreenTag has come a long way since launching Global GreenTag Certification just a few years ago,” says David. “We were the first company in the world to introduce an LCA based product rating ecolabel scheme that today certifies nearly 2000 products for approximately 200 companies with factories in over 22 countries, many of which are USA manufactured or available.” He then went on to comment “We are also the only ‘One-Stop’ rating system globally for the major green building rating tools including WELL, LEED and Green Star”.

For the US market, GreenTag shall be introducing some new services. The Global GreenTag Product Health Declaration (PhD) that uniquely rates the healthiness of products in use with an ‘In-use healthiness’ HealthRATE™ Mark.  Additionally, Global GreenTag’s EN 15804 compliant Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) Program will also be launched to additionally give US made products a CarbonRATE™ Mark.”

“We look forward to engaging more deeply with leaders in the sustainability field and contributing to the trajectory of greening the US and world-wide built environment,” said David.

“The strength of Global GreenTag has always been its deep, multi-attribute, scientifically robust technical basis, which is embedded in world leading research and green design. We have been described by product manufacturers in a number of countries as having the most meaningful sustainability scorecard in the world, and our Standard demands that product claims be proven beyond any doubt, and that’s very important to us. Which is why our Standard continues to evolve, to meet the needs of progressive manufacturers developing new benchmarks in green product design, both significantly healthier and beyond business as usual products.” He said.

GLOBAL GREENTAG INTERNATIONAL BEGINS BUSINESS IN MAINLAND CHINA

Global GreenTag International gathered for the launch of its first venture into Mainland China last month to begin growing business in the region with our partners – Ecosafene Products Technical Service Co., Ltd.  Together, we met with delegations from a number of key government and private companies in cities across the region, as well as visiting the huge DOMOTEX asia/ CHINAFLOOR expo in Shanghai.

For the trip, hosted by Ecosafene’s Technical Director Cricket Liu, the Global GreenTag team involved Global GreenTag’s CEO and Technical Director David Baggs, GreenTag’s Managing Director Mary-Lou Kelly and China Business Development Manager Dr Judy Luo for manufacturers based in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. David Baggs says:

“We have made a number of previous visits but launching our first venture has been a great success.  We met with some very forward thinking companies and government departments.  There is a strong focus on the protection of the environment and human health and better still, it is government led.  Ecosafene are proving to be a valuable partner for Global GreenTag to grow in the region and assist with certification needs that are designed specifically to align with the major green building rating programs.”

“The global green building industry is a trillion dollar market and our mission is to keep expanding access for progressive product manufacturers with Global GreenTag product certification into green building projects, registered with the leading programs like WELL Building Standard®, LEED®, BREEAM® and Green Star®.

“Our mission with Ecosafene is two-fold: to add to our growing list of progressive manufacturers from the Mainland China region and help them understand how certification will support their export efforts as well as contribute to their own growing green building industry; and to help expand markets for our other manufacturers with Global GreenTag certified products, from outside of the region, and support promotion of their products for use on projects within Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.”

Managing Director Mary-Lou Kelly added: “We did some great training with the team in Mainland China.  It all went incredibly well.  Importantly, we also had some truly inspiring meetings with government bodies who were impressed by the Global GreenTag Certification Standard, as a way to advance their plans towards sustainable development.”

New Rating Tool Search Function Allows Rapid Product Identification

Global GreenTag has activated a new search function on all of its websites to stimulate the building industry to look even more closely at Global GreenTag’s rating tool enabled certified products.  It is a move that will greatly assist architects, designers and product specifiers to quickly locate GreenTag certified products that contribute towards satisfying Features and Credits under the WELL Building Standard® Rating equivalencies as well as credits for Green Star® … The ‘IS’ Infrastructure Sustainability rating tool and LEED with more  product connections and other building programs to follow progressively.

Recognition of Global GreenTag Cert TM by the WELL Building Program™ which comes under the International WELL Building Institute™ (IWBI™) has also gone one step further with our ‘Equivalency’ recognition under the Alternative Compliance pathways present now on the WELL website and WELL mobile APP.

It has been a busy period for our assessment team since theWELL recognition of GreenTag certification took effect in January, reports GreenTag’s CEO and Technical Director, David Baggs.  “We are pleased to announce that the first three Global GreenTag certified products to roll out with contributions towards Features under the WELL Building Standard® included in their Certification are Storage Lockers by InterLoc Lockers,   METALWORKS® Ceilings & Walls by Armstrong World Industries Ceiling Division and Office Worktops by EM UTick.

“Alongside GreenTag’s primary job of certifying products, we are committed to creating strategic opportunities for manufacturers who want to leverage their GreenTag certification deeper and further into the sustainable building industry.””

In addition to WELL, the building rating tool browser function installed on GreenTag’s websites allows for site visitors to drill down for products that also align with:

  • Green Star® Australia – GBCA,
  • LEED v4 – USGBC,
  • IS Rating – ISCA and,
  • Green Star® Africa – GBCSA.

Aligning Products For WELL Building Projects

“With its core deliverable of health, WELL is a significant player globally for our manufacturers who have the right Global GreenTag certification to step into,” says David.

“According to figures on the International WELL Building Institute website, there’s over 600 projects registered worldwide under the WELL program and some 13 projects registered throughout Australia.”

Manufacturers with potential products ready for WELL under the Global GreenTag certification system will need to align under the following:

  • Under WELL Feature 04, products only need to be certified under Global GreenTag International Standard v.4.0;
  • Under WELL Features 09,11, 25, 26, 41 and 97 products must also qualify under Global GreenTag’s health transparency tool, the Product Health DeclarationTM (PhDTM );
  • To be awarded a Global GreenTag PhD, products first need to be certified under the Global GreenTag International Standard v.4.0 (and additional fees or charges may be required to upgrade products that are currently certified under Version 3.2 of the standard).

Manufacturers who would like to discuss their options to secure a PhD, or to upgrade their certification to Standard v.4.0, are invited to email Brett Hazlett: manufacturers@globalgreentag.com

WELL™ Building Standard ‘Equivalencies’ for Products with Global GreenTag Certificates will ROLL OUT IN JANUARY

171212_GGT_WELL_2018 linkedin banner 2

The organisation for bringing healthy Global GreenTag certified building and interiors products comprehensively and transparently into alignment with the WELLTM  tool has officially begun.

As of January 1, 2018, all GreenTag International Standard version 4.0 Certified Products will have relevant WELLTM Building Standard Equivalency recognition/s included on their Global GreenTag Certificates.

For equivalencies that require the Global GreenTag Product Health DeclarationTM (PhDTM ), the WELL equivalencies won’t be added to a certificate, unless there is also a PhD available.  Hence from January, if people see a new product certificate, dated 2018 without WELL  Building Standard equivalencies, they will know that the product is not currently relevant to WELL;  and, if they see a certification with WELL equivalence, it will tell them (where relevant) if it needs a PhD certificate as well, to comply with the WELL Feature requirements.

“Manufacturers with products certified with Global GreenTag and with PhDs have a lot to look forward to in the New Year as the full scope of WELL  ‘equivalencies’ for GreenTag certified products comes into play,” says David Baggs, Global GreenTag’s CEO and Program Director.

“The WELL standard is moving very fast into the market and having a big impact on products and procurement. There will also likely be further updates in 2018, which we will announce to manufacturers as they unfold.”

Meanwhile, Global GreenTag Certified products with PhDs now have the opportunity to step more easily into the rapidly expanding Australian WELL  market but also the USA and 30+ other countries where WELL  projects have a significant presence.  “In Australia alone, the International WELL Building Institute already has forged strong partnerships with companies like DEXUS, CBRE, Mirvac, CBUS Properties and Lend Lease … it’s a promising time for manufacturers with GreenTag certified products,” says David.

MOVE INTO THE WELL MARKET

How Global GreenTagCertTM Fits With WELLTM

WELL does not use a points system, a project achieves ‘Features’ or not. For systems not included in the original Guide, an ‘Equivalency’ system is used for recognition of additional certification systems.

The following Features relate to Global GreenTag:

Feature 04 VOC Reduction (Equivalency Approved)

  • PART 1: Interior Paints and Coatings
  • PART 2: Interior Adhesives and Sealants
  • PART 3: Flooring
  • PART 4: Insulation
  • PART 5: Furniture and Furnishings

Feature 11 Fundamental Material Safety (Equivalency Approved)

  • PART 1a: Asbestos & Lead Restriction

Feature 26 Enhanced Material Safety (Equivalency Approved)

Feature 97 Material Transparency (Equivalency Approved)

  • PART 1: Precautionary Material Selection

Equivalency with other Features has been applied for and are in process..stay tuned!
